Content Warning: “Robot Chicken” contains quite a bit of cartoonish violence, as well as offensive early 2000’s humor and sexual content. This show may not be for everyone.
“Robot Chicken” is a show on Adult Swim that first aired in 2005. Although the latest season aired in 2022, it is still ongoing, making it one of the longest-running shows on Adult Swim (after Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which I honestly don’t know anything about).
I’ve been a fan of the show since I first saw it back in 2006, and I think a lot of my humor and personal beliefs were influenced by the clips I sneak-watched when my parents left the room. I’ve written a list showing my favorite skits, but since this show has been in production for more than 15 years, there are countless skits that deserve attention.
The last week has been politically tense. While I don’t think this particular blog post is the place to discuss politics, I do want to empathize with anyone going through a difficult time. Sometimes when you’re having a hard time, it can feel nice to laugh at something nostalgic, which is where “Robot Chicken” excels. This show has never solved any of my problems, but it has made me forget them for a few minutes, and I hope it does the same for you.
So please enjoy, and try not to think less of me.
As much as I enjoyed this compilation of Grim Reaper antics (definitely more than “Meet Joe Black“), it’s really Gladys who won me over. Whenever I’m having a rough day, I think of the words (and actions) of Gladys, and I feel just a bit stronger.
Bitch Pudding may have one of the most iconic introductions in the entirety of “Robot Chicken.” What likely began as a one-note character meant to contrast the sugary sweetness of the Strawberry Shortcake world has since transformed into one of the most recognizable characters from “Robot Chicken.”
Also, “Bitch Pudding” is now my stage name.
I recommend people watch “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” simply so they can understand this scene. This scene imagines an alternate response to the initial alien encounter at the end of the classic science fiction film. “They’re playing a crunchy tune” is something I don’t say nearly often enough.
This scene deserves entry on the list simply because it delves into the psychology of a young girl who talks a big game but immediately regrets it.
I have never watched an episode of “Doctor Who” and this entry on the list proves how little I know about it. I do have to credit this clip with introducing the phrase “Nerd Osmosis” to my vocabulary, which is what I say in response to anyone who asks how I know so much about “Game of Thrones” despite not finishing the first season.
I was torn about recommending this skit. In the years since “The Simple Life” aired, our understanding of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (and the constant objectification and misogyny they experienced as famous young women in the early 2000s) has matured. I honestly thought Nicole Richie was hilarious in “Great News” and should continue to act in sitcoms, and Paris Hilton has proven herself on many occasions to be an intelligent, eloquent person. That being said, this clip is still very funny.
So many universes assemble for a wonderful purpose: to humiliate and degrade chubby, and beloved, characters from popular culture in a “Biggest Loser” style competition. Led by Barbie, the woman who can do everything yet for some reason wants be the host of a demeaning reality show, these four famous pop culture icons are forced to confront their unhealthy coping techniques and look within to change their behavior. Or they would, if this was a real show and not a 3-minute clip making fun of round characters.
What happens when the beloved Keebler tree is attacked by the fiercest of foes? And how should we feel when a beloved Muppet shows us why they call him “Cookie Monster“? Also the resulting court scene is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
As much as I *ship* Bert and Ernie I couldn’t help but be charmed at the idea that Ernie and Bert really are just platonic friends and roommates but Ernie likes to mess with him. I also appreciate that Cookie Monster and Grover are so supportive, and I might have started quoting Cookie Monster whenever I’m confronted with the amorous behaviors of older couples.
This skit does punch down a little, but it’s also a solid parody of the “V” franchise. It debuted back when George W. Bush was president, an event that now feels like it belongs to another, simpler timeline.
I hope these clips have made you laugh as much as I did. If you need more funny, mind-numbing content, I’ve got you covered.
(And if you don’t want your mind to be numb but you need a break from national news, perhaps consider supporting your local newspaper, because they could use the support, and it might be nice to review important news that’s closer to home)
Omg Bitch Pudding is way better than Turkish Delight (the Bitch Pudding clip scared me…)
Barbie in the biggest loser clip looks like a Tim Burton character from The Night Before Christmas; I was gonna say something dark about the biggest loser clip but I’m gonna keep that to myself
Out of curiosity did Robot Chicken have to pay a lot of fees to showcase characters that are trademarked?
