Other Cat Janice Songs to Stream After “Dance You Outta My Head”

Content Warning: The following post is about a young mother with terminal cancer.

Cat Janice is a musician who recently went viral for a bittersweet reason. Her song, “Dance You Outta My Head,” was released in honor of her 7-year-old son, and it may be her last song, as Cat Janice is a cancer patient currently in hospice care.

Over the past two weeks, the song has gone viral, as good Samaritans listen to the song, make reels to it, and choreograph dances to it. It’s a cute, happy song that she wrote with her son, and the juxtaposition of the bouncy melody with the tragedy of her illness has captured people’s interest.

In the past few days, I’ve learned a lot about her. I learned that she’s worked as a scientist. She was in a master’s program in coastal geology but had to withdraw because of her cancer. An article from a few years ago showed that she is incredibly passionate about the environment and helping to solve the climate crisis. She wants to encourage people to “Love Earth a Little More.”

I also learned that despite her excitement about her song going viral, she’s still very sick and, despite her pain, is fighting her illness.

I’ve been listening to her discography, and while “Dance You Outta My Head” is a fun song, I found myself really enjoying her other songs. I’ve put together a short list of the ones I enjoyed, and I hope you get a chance to listen to them.

Pricey (2018)

Luxury (2020)

The Ocean (for you) (2020)

Body High (2023)

Wishing I Was You (2023)

I sincerely wish Cat Janice well. And I hope she can continue to release new music after “Dance You Outta My Head.”

Update: Cat Janice passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 31. Even though I didn’t know her personally, I was moved by her story, and I had hoped that she would experience a miracle and be able to recover from her illness. I am very sorry for her and her family, especially her young son, but if there is one small silver lining, it is that she at least could see the wonderful impact her music had on people. Rest in peace.
