Why You Should Give Disney’s Live-Action “Snow White” a Chance

APRIL FOOLS.

That movie was doomed from the start. It took the blueprint of the original film (not the Brothers Grimm story), stripped it of anything “controversial,” and then filled in the gaps with generic YA rebellion storylines. It’s a movie that speaks for a long time without saying anything.

Rachel Zegler’s hair might be what offends me the most

One Day, Walt Disney Pictures may learn that you cannot throw a bunch of money at a project and hope that’s enough to manifest a hit. Until that day arrives, I suggest watching a different movie. Here are a few non-Gal Gadot’ed “Snow White” movies that you may prefer to watch instead:

Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997), a spookier reimagining starring Monica Keena and Sigourney Weaver

This is really more of a Sigourney Weaver movie than a Snow White movie, so enjoy!

Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (2001), starring Kristin Kreuk and Miranda Richardson

I watched this version when it first debuted in 2001, so it has a soft spot in my heart.

Mirror Mirror (2012), starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts

This version is a little cheesy, but it has flair!

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron

I feel like this movie deserves a second chance

After assembling this short list, I’m beginning to think what our world needs now more than ever is a good live-action adaptation of the Brothers Grimm tale “Snow White.” As I haven’t yet watched every movie version of the story, it looks like I have some research to do. In the meantime, let me know if you’ve watched any of these movies and how you think they compare to Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White.”
