Hilarious “Hyperbole and a Half” Posts for When You’ve Finished Reading the Books

Allie Brosh, the creator of “Hyperbole and a Half,” has written two best-selling books. The first, aptly named “Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened,” was published in 2013. The book was a collection of funny, honest, and surprisingly emotional stories about things like misadventures in depression, the pain of owning a stupid dog, and the siren’s song of a beautifully frosted cake. Unsurprisingly, the book was well-received, and the people anxiously awaited a sequel.

To the fans of George R.R. Martin: I understand your pain.

I, of course, was one of the people. “Solutions and Other Problems” was finally released in September 2020. I pre-ordered copies for myself and one of my besties. Although the tone of the book was different, and Brosh’s artistic style had matured, I still loved the long-awaited sequel. Brosh’s stories of what happened to her sister, as well as how her personal life changed drastically in the years between books, impacted me deeply. I also find myself thinking at times, “Okay, guy – guess what: You don’t get to choose the bananas anymore” and I’m saddened that no one realizes what a sick burn that is.

I’m now waiting for Brosh to publish her next book, even though I’m sure it’ll be years before we hear anything about a new release. After all, we waited patiently for years for the release of “Solutions and Other Problems,” before we could even get a glimpse of the cover.

So until we hear news of another book, I went through the Hyperbole and a Half archives to share with you my favorite comics. None of these made it into her first book, which while a tragedy, also feels a little bit like unearthing the antikythera mechanism. We should enjoy these little treasures while they’re available to us.

  1. The Alot Is Better Than You At Everything
  2. The Sneaky Hate Spiral
  3. Spiders are Scary. It’s Okay to Be Afraid of Them.
  4. How a Fish Almost Destroyed My Childhood
  5. World’s Best Relationship Tips

After you’ve finished reading these, I’ll bet you’ve noticed a whole couple of hours have passed! We’re that much closer to the next release!
